Major Infrastructure & Curriculum Development at UTEP

zubia.jpg Prof. David Zubia was awarded a $1M grant (with $1.5M in matching funds from UTEP) by the Texas Instruments Foundation to perform major infrastructure and curriculum development in the area of semiconductors and wireless communications. A major portion of the time spent preparing the proposal for the grant was during a summer visit to NCN at Purdue in 2003. The figure shows minority students performing ordered nanocrystalline research in a class-100/10 cleanroom that was renovated with funds from the grant. The nanocrystalline research will be utilized to validate a computational model that is currently being developed at UTEP to calculate strain in nanoheterostructures.
