Partnering With nanoHUB

As a center develops a start-up strategic plan for the National Science Foundation (NSF) or another funding agency, the dissemination of content on nanoHUB.org can be included in the plan. The Network for Computational Nanotechnology (NCN) is ready to help centers in their research and outreach missions through nanoHUB, the virtual nanotechnology user facility that is uniquely prepared to help centers engage and impact a global community:

  • nanoHUB has an active and growing user community of over 1.4 million annual visitors interested in nanoscale engineering and science worldwide. It is an excellent vehicle for fast knowledge transfer to the larger scientific community.
  • Computational and simulation tools written in a wide variety of programming languages can easily be deployed on nanoHUB. nanoHUB also offers the Rappture toolkit, which makes creation of a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) a simple task. Use of a Rappture GUI is optional, but over 90% of nanoHUB tool authors utilize Rappture.
  • nanoHUB supports the upload of educational and supporting materials in a large range of formats, including PowerPoint, PDF, movies, animations, and more. All content can be uploaded through a simple process supported by step-by-step instructions (see https://nanohub.org/contribute). NCN staff can also provide further direction or training, if needed.
  • Content authors who deploy materials on nanoHUB receive up-to-date usage statistics for their contributions, and roll-up statistics for all the content attributed to a center will also soon be available.

Hosting a Center Web Page on nanoHUB.org

NCN hosts a growing number of center websites directly on nanoHUB. New centers are working with us to create a custom website presence on nanoHUB, eliminating the need for separate web hosting and service. NCN staff can coordinate with the center on the development of a page design for a custom look and feel, and help train center staff on how to independently edit page content. Due to the ease of modifying nanoHUB group pages, the centers find they can update web content without specialized personnel. Various typical web 2.0 capabilities are available in these customized group pages, such as: tagging, searching, wikis, threaded discussions, blogs, wishlists, and calendars.
